Joshua Brien

Joshua is a Special Counsel with Cooley U.K. LLP who specialises in public international law, with a particular emphasis on the Law of the Sea. Prior to joining Cooley, Joshua was a Principal Legal Adviser with the Office of International Law of the Australian Attorney-General and later became the Head of the Oceans and Natural Resources Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, where he led the oceans and the blue economy work of the organisation from 2010 to 2017. During that time he worked closely with a range of States in the African region including Cameroon, Kenya, Mauritius and Seychelles on the development of the blue economy and related law of the sea matters and continues in his current role to advise a range of States throughout the world on aspects of the blue economy.
